Project Overview

Pianist Mika Orava, having played the piano for tens of thousands of hours, believes he is now reaching the core of his artistic expression after a lifelong journey of personal and spiritual growth. A graduate of Sibelius Academy, the Academy of Fine Arts, and holder of an eMBA, Orava has also worked as a business coach but now dedicates himself entirely to art, music, and inner development.

My Role & Contributions

I have collaborated with Mika Orava to record his piano performances, often played in near-total darkness to direct attention solely to the music. Alongside works by Franz Schubert, his repertoire primarily focuses on Johann Sebastian Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, which he finds deeply ritualistic and endlessly inspiring.

These recordings have served as a tool for reflection, enabling Orava to refine his performances and ritualistic approach. While none have been released publicly, the process has been an invaluable artistic and philosophical collaboration.

I also had the privilege of interviewing Orava at the Hailuoto Music Festival, where he performed Bach’s fugues and preludes. Excerpts from that concert can be heard in the interview.
