Project Overview
The Finnish contemporary composer Roope Mäenpää, based in Tampere, visited the Hailuoto Music Festival on two separate occasions, bringing TEMA Quartet to perform his works.
One of the pieces performed, Chasing the Thrill, is inspired by the story of cancer-stricken Forrest Fenn, who hid treasure in the U.S. Rocky Mountains, sparking a massive treasure hunt with at times tragic consequences. The work portrays human childlike defiance, the blinding urge to compete, and the power of storytelling.
Mäenpää and TEMA Quartet have collaborated since 2015, when they first performed Mäenpää’s debut string quartet during their Baltic tour. The second quartet was composed specifically for the ensemble, making it a fitting piece for TEMA Quartet’s 10th anniversary performance at the Hailuoto Music Festival in 2022.
