Project Overview
Academic researcher Pirjo Suvilehto developed the Pritney Method, an innovative educational approach inspired by her real-life Shetland pony. Central to the method is a hand puppet representing the pony which serves as a tool to engage children in interactive, creative learning. The method weaves storytelling, singing, art, dance, and other activities into a child’s daily life, nurturing empathy, imagination, and emotional growth.
Designed to enhance the skills of early educators and kindergarten teachers, the Pritney Method integrates puppetry and drama with thoughtfully selected children’s literature, art supplies, and tools for creative expression. Activities are tailored to the developmental needs of various age groups and draw upon Suvilehto’s own storybooks and songs as foundational resources.
Services Involved
My Role & Contributions
I contributed to an academic initiative financed by the Finnish National Agency for Education by transcribing and producing sheet music for a collection of children’s songs written by Suvilehto, based on her self-made recordings.
The University of Oulu commissioned the project, with GST Graafinen Studio designing the publication. You can browse the PDF version below; the sheet music pages are made by me.
Recordings Based on the Sheet Music
Producer Timo Nykyri later used the sheet music as a basis to arrange and record an album of the songs with Suvilehto, freely available for online streaming.
